How it works
-
1. Copy the video link
Use Share → Copy link in YouTube, or copy the address from your browser. Shorts links work too.
-
2. Paste it here
The thumbnails appear straight away, largest first. Sizes the video does not have are marked.
-
3. Open and save
Open the size you want in a new tab and save it from there (long-press on a phone).
Where YouTube thumbnails come from
Every YouTube video has its thumbnail published on YouTube’s image servers in a few standard sizes. This tool reads the video’s ID from your link and shows those images directly from YouTube — nothing is copied or stored by us.
The full HD version (1280×720) exists only when the uploader’s source was large enough, so older or small uploads may stop at 640×480 or 480×360.
Thumbnails are the creator’s work. Studying them for ideas, or saving your own, is fine; reusing someone else’s thumbnail as your own is not.
Questions about the YouTube Thumbnail Downloader
youtube.com/watch?v=…, youtu.be/…, youtube.com/shorts/…, /live/… and /embed/… links, or the 11-character video ID on its own.
YouTube only publishes 1280×720 when the video was uploaded at that size or larger. The tool marks it as not available instead of showing YouTube’s grey placeholder.
Your own, yes. Someone else’s thumbnail belongs to them — ask before you reuse it.
